Freshwater Beach
Situated between two scenic headlands, Freshwater Beach is a stunning family-friendly destination. It’s part of the Manly-Freshwater National and World Surfing Reserve, a designation that highlights the historical, cultural, and environmental significance of these renowned surfing spots.
Freshwater Beach holds a special place in surfing history as the site where Duke Kahanamoku, a legendary Hawaiian surfer, introduced surfboard riding to Australia on January 10, 1915. A life-size statue of Kahanamoku stands on the northern headland to commemorate this historic event.
The beach is a popular spot for learning to surf, the middle-northern end being the ideal spot. A surf school is conveniently located nearby. For those who prefer lap swimming, there’s an 8-lane, 50-metre saltwater pool at the northern end of the beach. Additionally, you can enjoy upscale dining at a nearby restaurant or relax at one of the cafes nearby.
Facilities at Freshwater Beach include toilets, showers, a playground, a viewing platform, picnic areas, BBQs, a kiosk, bins, and parking. After a day at the beach, explore Freshwater Village for coffee, good food, boutique shopping, or a drink.
Freshwater Beach is situated just 1.7 km north of Manly, about a 24-minute walk or a quick 6-minute drive from the Manly Pacific hotel.
