Story of Place

Story of Place – Gayamay People of Manly

The Gayamay (Ka-ye-my) people are the Traditional Owners of this Country, having lived here for thousands of years. The Gayamaygal (gal = people) cared for this land, hunting and gathering, passing down their stories, songs and dances and conserving resourced for future generations.

Captain Arthur Phillip, first Governor of NSW, met the strong and powerful Gayamal men and wrote ‘Their confidence and manly behaviour made me give the name Manly Cove to this place’.  – Aboriginal Heritage Office

An acknowledgment Plaque takes pride of place in our hotel entrance to ensure that we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land.
